The countries and communities we travel to give us so much: a lifetime of memories, deeper understanding of culture, looks into humanity, nature, history, and the grounds for establishing relationships that will last long after the tour comes to a close. We are thankful and now we are giving back.

The new TQ Gives Back program was established to provide our travelers an opportunity to support the developing countries we visit in different ways. This fall, we chose to focus on education in Ethiopia. We asked our solar eclipse tour guests to join our trip leaders in bringing school supplies on the trip to be donated to a school in Turmi, a rural market town in the southwestern part of Ethiopia. As Africa does not have an advanced trash removal system, supplies were removed from packaging and re-bundled in reusable plastic bags in order to reduce what would-be excess waste in the country.

Upon arrival in Turmi, trip leader Michel Girardin and the TQ group met with the school’s headmaster to donate supplies to the students in need. To show appreciation, the students hosted a ceremony, which included a flag-raising and national anthem, prior to our presentation. The supplies were very well received and much appreciated. They will be distributed throughout the school and surrounding community to encourage enrollment and advance education in the town.

It is the least we could do for all Ethiopia and the rest of Africa did for us and we look forward to giving back wherever we go next.
